The country’s national flag carrier, and the official airline of the XVI Pacific Games, Samoa Airways added flights to its schedule to meet the high demand of travellers.
The additional included support flights for the XVI Pacific Games to an already busy period on the airline’s calendar, according to the airlines Communication Specialist, Dwayne Bentley.
“The Pacific Games has created additional demand for travel to Samoa, during what is traditionally a busy period. The Games coincided with the mid-year school holidays in both Australia and New Zealand and the holiday plans of many who chose to escape the southern winter to experience Samoa’s warmth, natural beauty, people and culture”, the Communication Specialist stated.
“As the official airline of the Games, we’ve worked closely with, and supported the Games Office in relation to the travel arrangements for the Technical Officials who have played a key role in managing the various sports and competitions to ensure compliance with international standards and regulations.”
“Events tourism has great potential for our country as evident in the Games, and as the national carrier, naturally we welcome and support opportunities that generate publicity and demand for travel to and from Samoa. The international broadcast of the various events showcased Samoa’s facilities and infrastructure and capacity to stage international events of this nature.”
“We continue to operate scheduled flights between Apia, Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane using a Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft ensuring improved access to and from Samoa that supports our people, tourism and our country’s development aspirations.”
